Jamie Foxx Shares Emotional Photos From His Return to the Stage After Health Scare
View Date:2025-01-11 09:20:19
Jamie Foxx is grateful to be back on stage.
The 56-year-old performed his previously announced one-man show, One More Chance: An Evening With Jamie Foxx, in Atlanta earlier this month, and now he's reflecting on the special moment, which came over a year suffering an undisclosed life-threatening medical complication in April 2023.
"God is good," he captioned an Oct. 3 carousel of images on Instagram. "As I post these pictures, my heart and my soul is filled with nothing but pure joy…on October 3 fourth and fifth I had an opportunity to tell my side of the story and there was no better place than Atlanta Georgia."
He continued, "I have to thank you Atlanta you showed up and you showed out, I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were."
In the photos that he posted from his performances, Jamie appeared emotional, hiding his head in his elbow, bowing his head to the audience, hugging someone on stage and addressing the crowd.
"When people ask me is this a stand up comedy show I say no it’s an artistic explanation," Jamie added. "Of some thing that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta especially piedmont hospital you enabled me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most."
While the Oscar-winning actor hasn't shared many details about his medical emergency with the public, he has provided some insights into the harrowing experience.
Speaking at an event in July, Jamie shared that he got a "bad headache" while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action co-starring Cameron Diaz in Atlanta and "asked my boy for an Advil."
Next thing he knew, he was "gone for 20 days" and he doesn't "remember anything" from that stretch of time.
Jamie went on to credit his daughter Corinne Fox and his sister Deidra Dixon for saving his life by assisting him in getting medical attention. After receiving a cortisone shot from a first doctor, he recalled a second doctor telling him "there's something going on up there" as he pointed to his head.
"I won't say it on camera," he explained before trailing off. "But it was..."
The Django Unchained actor echoed those sentiments in a birthday post to his sister on Instagram the following month.
"Without you I would not be here," he posted in August. "Had you not made the decisions that you made I would've lost my life."
The comedian had also previously shared that he was unable to walk at some point due to the medical condition he suffered from.
"It's crazy, I couldn't do that six months ago," he said while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Choice Association‘s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements in December 2023. "I couldn't actually walk."
He added, "I've been through something. I've been through some things."
Jamie also went on to share just how close he felt he'd gotten to losing his health battle.
"I cherish every single minute now—it's different," he said. "I wouldn't wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it's tough when it's almost over. When you see the tunnel, I saw the tunnel—I didn't see the light."
