Jennifer Lopez says Ayo Edebiri was 'mortified' at resurfaced comments before 'SNL'
View Date:2025-01-11 09:48:50
Jennifer Lopez is telling all about her awkward "Saturday Night Live" experience with "The Bear" star Ayo Edebiri.
JLo was the musical guest alongside the week's host Edebiri, but the duo made headlines days before the Feb. 3 live show when past statements of Edebiri criticizing Lopez resurfaced online from a 2020 appearance on the "Scam Goddess" podcast.
In a new interview with Variety published Tuesday, JLo opened up about the incident with Edebiri, who Lopez says had a long apology for her.
"She was mortified and very sweet. She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform," Lopez recalled of Edebiri, who also said, "sorry, it was so awful of me.'"

"It's funny. I've heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn't affect me," Lopez told Variety about the incident.
Ayo Edebiri previously called Jennifer Lopez's career 'one long scam'
During her previous podcast comments, Edebiri called Lopez's career "one long scam" and later added that, "I think she thinks that she's still good even though she's not singing for most of these songs," appearing to reference longstanding claims and rumors that Lopez does not sing her own songs.
"I appreciate a good scam. Today, I was actually thinking about one of my favorite scams of all time, because JLo is performing at the Super Bowl halftime show," Edebiri also said previously in reference to Lopez's 2020 Super Bowl halftime show performance.
While hosting "SNL," The Bear" actress brought up how her own past comments came to light after a game show sketch titled "Why'd You Say It," where players explained their questionable Instagram comments. Edebiri referenced the comments she made in 2020 that were critical of the singer.
"We get it. It's wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don't consider the impact because you're 24 and stupid," Edebiri, now 28, said during her "SNL" appearance. "But I think I speak for everyone when I say from now on, we're going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online."
